Party time in Budapest

I was so excited to get to Budapest, two days in this city, and quite some free time, too. Budapest was the hottest place I'd been. The temperature there in July was between 37-40C, and it was stifling heat.

We arrived early evening and had a couple of hours to get ready for the nights events. That evening we were going on a river cruise, followed by a traditional Hungarian meal & then onto one of the ruin bars. After travelling for most of the day from Zakopane, stopping in Slovakia, and eventually in the city of Budapest, we decided we needed a drink and our dorm room became a hub of activity with girls getting ready for our night out in Budapest. Hair straighteners, make up, alcohol- all the makings of a girly pre-drink session.

Jo, our Hungarian driver, drove us down to the river to catch our boat for the evening river cruise. The cooling breeze was so welcome, and the views were spectacular. Jo had also come with a present, in the form of two bottles. These bottles contained pálinka. I can tell you right now, pálinka is lethal! It is rude to refuse a shot, and Jo offered me two, so by the time I got off the boat, I had more than sea legs.

Dinner followed our river cruise, Jo our driver, was Hungarian so he recommended we have the Goulash soup followed by the Chicken Paprikash, and from what I remember of it, it was good! Things went kinda downhill from there, we'd been offered Buy One Get One Free Mojitos, and well... things got messy from there.

And somehow, we ended up here:

Szimpla.

    1. It was a great night, thanks! I think the river cruise is a great way to see the sights of the city that sit on the river :)

  2. IMO, if there is one city to do a river cruise, it's Budapest! OK, palinka optional river cruise :). The last two photos say nothing and a lot at the same time. Let's just assume you had a great time :)

    1. The last two photo's are more or less all I can remember of Szimpla, which is a bit of a shame really! I think it was easily my heaviest night on the trip, but I had a great time. All I know is I so enjoyed it in Budapest- tho' perhaps just one shot of palinka in future.

  6. I haven't seen Budapest from the water. I'll have to do that the next time I visit. So gorgeous. I have too many messy nights to count in that city and they usually involve palinka. And yes, Budapest sucks so much in the summer. I can't stand the 40 degree heat and the lack of air conditioning. They say its on, but it's not really. Thanks for linking up to the #SundayTraveler.

    1. You should! I think it's such a great way to see the city. The heat was so intense, it was lovely out on the water though.

  7. Somehow, I've never associated Budapest with stifling heat. It sounds like you had an epic night! I think 'it's rude to refuse a shot' is a great custom, because if we had it here it would be so much easier to mentally excuse an occasional shots party.

    1. It was just so close and sticky!
I don't know if its a great custom, but I definitely felt it :)
