A Southern Gypsy
Chasing the Donkey
A Brit and a Southerner
Yeah, alright, you got me. I've already been to Amsterdam BUT I want to go back. I am even considering going towards the end of the year, if I have the money for a flight and haven't used all of my holiday. One thing I am definitely doing is going for Kings Day next year. I had hoped to go this year, but my parents are away and that would leave my dog home alone for two days, and clever though I am sure he is, I don't think he's quite got the hang of walking himself or feeding himself. He is far too spoilt to go into kennels, before anyone suggests it.
There is something about Amsterdam that I loved, maybe it was because it was my first real solo trip anywhere, or maybe it's more than that. Maybe it's the way that no one bat's an eyelid when you don't have a driving license and you cycle everywhere, or have a scooter for longer journeys. Maybe it's the weird way that I can understand a fair bit of Dutch, both written and spoken, without ever having learnt a word of the language (actually, I learnt to count last time I was there). Maybe it's that, when I got lost in the city and ended up walking up and down a residential street several times that someone came out and asked me where I had hoped to end up, and then shown me the way.
Even after a couple of years of taking solo journey's, Amsterdam is still my favourite place.
