Q is for Queensland, Australia
On my travels I have met a lot of Australians, and one of my favourite friends from Down Under happens to be from Queensland. Brisbane, actually. My only real knowledge of Australia, is from Bill Bryson's book about Australia, but I am dying to do a trip around the whole country, but for now here are my top three things to do in Queensland.
The XXXX Brewery
A great trip for any beer lover. The brewery is 135 years old, and iconic in Australia. You can take a tour where you'll learn about the origins and history of beer, and of XXXX. Learn about brewing and the ingredients and to pour the perfect beer, and there is a tasting at the end of the brewery's tour.
This tiny island, only 5 square kilometre's, boast 4 kilometre's of beautiful safe beaches. Coochiemudlo lies between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, in Moreton Bay. The island's shallow beaches and mangroves are protected from the breakers of the South Pacific. The most dominant feature of the island is the red rock, which it gets its name from. Don't be fooled by the name, even although "mud" appears in it there is only one mangrove, the rest of the island is beach.
Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
SQUUUEEEEE! Best for last. Koala's. Koala bears. Koala cuddling! Need I say more? You can't do this in New South Wales anymore, but it's still allowed in Queensland. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary started in 1927, and started small, with just two koala's named "Jack" and "Jill". There are around 130 koala's living in the sanctuary now. Nowadays it's more than a koala sanctuary, and has various other wildlife living there too.
Have you visited Queensland, what did you do?
