This Time Next Week....

This time next week I will be at the first day of La Fiesta de San Fermin, more commonly known to us English speakers as The Running of the Bulls or Pamplona!

San Fermin

It is the start of my three- week- long trip around a few places in Europe. I am travelling almost entirely with Busabout, bar a few days, and doing this Pamplona tour, Croatia Sail and Bohemian. If you, or any of your friends are on any of these this July send me a message through the contact page! I am entirely confident I am in good hands with Busabout, as I have travelled with them before & have always had a good time.

I've been wanting to attend San Fermin for years, in fact, I'd say I've always known about it but I decided I really wanted to attend after reading Jane's blog posts about it a good few years ago. As an ex-expatriate of Spain, I feel it's a tradition that I should attend once. Plus, knowing that Bullfighting has been banned in Cataluña, it probably won't be long before it becomes a nationwide ban. I have heard that I can attend a bullfight there, too. Which I definitely want to do. I want to experience it before I can't any more; or as my friend Tom said to me back along, see things before the world changes again. To prepare myself I have been reading Hemingway's Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises.

After San Fermin I'm spending a night in Barcelona, where I hope to visit La Pedrera and get some early tapas before heading to my hotel for an early night. La Pedrera is the one Gaudi place I missed last time, if I had spent less time at La Sagrada I, perhaps, would have had the time to visit. I am excited, though, it gives me something to do & since my train arrives to Sants in the early afternoon, I am fairly confident of how to get there.

I fly from Barcelona to Split, and have almost two days there. I want to visit Krka National Park, but otherwise I'm just planning on chilling out before a heavy week of Sun, Sea and Alcohol on Croatia Sail. There is so much I am looking forward to on Croatia Sail, but number 1 is definitely climbing the walls of Dubrovnik. Spending my days swimming in the sea along side the boat, or sunbathing & reading sound absolute perfection to me. Plus, party hard at night time!

On the Bohemian Tour, I cannot wait to get to Lake Bled! I haven't even got to Slovenia yet, but everyone talks about it in hushed tones. The place is like the worst kept secret in Europe, yet still not many people have found it- in spite of this terrible secret keeping.

Whilst I am away, I've got some great guest posts coming up for you guys! So don't think it's going to be quiet over here. I won't be around for Sunday Traveler, but I'm going to be posting each Wednesday about where I am.

  1. I've always wanted to go to the Running of the Bulls, my best mate will be there this year actually. Are you going to run with them?

    1. God, no, I run like a goose! Definitely not going to that lack of talent on show for everyone to see- and then end up getting gauged by a bull!! I want to see it, but I'm not brave enough to join in!

    2. A shame that the bulls have no choice.
Im sure it will be great for everyone who enjoys to watch a sentient being to be chased down and murdered in front of a crowd paying to see him tormented, stabbed and finally dismembered for their pleasure. enjoy.

  2. I was in Pamplona last year during Sanfermines, but not for the party, I was walking the Camino de Santiago. I wanted to stay for the bulls, but just before I got there there was a terrible accident and it kind of put me off. Still looks like a great party though, I'm sure you'll have a ball!

    1. I think if you're just watching then it's pretty safe- and I will be doing just that, watching. ;)

  4. Have fun Sammi! If possible it's a great idea to book La Pedrera online. I did this for Casa Batllo and was able to walk right in and skip the queue.

    1. Cheers, Caitlyn. I have booked now, it occurred to me a couple of days ago that the very last thing I wanted to do was be queuing up in Passeig de Gracia in the heat of midday to get in ;)

  8. How fun! I don't know how likely I am to want to run with the bulls, but it would be fun to watch. And yay Slovenia! You'll love it :)

  9. Yeah, I don't think I will be running, either, Adelina. I am looking forward to Slovenia soooo much!

  10. You've got some exciting travels coming up. Like other commenters, I was also wondering if you were actually going to be on the streets running. You are a wise woman to skip that part. It's funny you mentioned The Sun Also Rises because I just picked it up yesterday. Doesn't it capture the spirit of the area? I've never heard of Lake Bled, so thanks for spilling the secret.

    1. Thanks! I had an amazing time! I loved the book, also! So good. I chose a good book for Slovenia, through sheer serendipity I started reading Stardust not realising all the fairy story's connected with Bled.
