Packing List: Iceland

Crazily enough, given that it's winter, I am attempting to visit Iceland with hand luggage only. I'm there for 3 nights, so it shouldn't be a problem, right?

My hand luggage bag is from the World's Lightest Collection which I've had for just over a year now. It's great because it's size complies even with the Budget airlines, & I can really stuff a lot in there. My biggest issue is that I managed to break the strap so have to carry it on my arm, which can cause bruising issues, shall we say!

My travel outfit of choice (in spite of it still hitting around 15C here during the day) is going to be jeans, a thick sweater, my new coat, boots, and scarf. As well as attempting to shove my hat, and gloves into my coat pocket!

In My Bag:

  • 4 x jumpers
  • 2 thin long sleeve t-shirts for layering
  • 1 pair of Jeans
  • 1 pair of leggings
  • 4 x woolen socks
  • 4 x undies
  • 1 spare bra (y'never know)
  • Pyjamas
  • Bikini (for Blue Lagoon/ other geothermal bath's I might be visiting)
  • Travel Towel
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body scrub, lipbalm, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush & ties)
  • Hairdryer (space allowing)
  • Point & Shoot camera
  • The Big Camera (here's hoping I can work it
  • Various chargers, lead's etc

In my Handbag:

My day bag of choice is a Travelon anti theft cross body bag. In that I will carry my wallet, an umbrella, my phone, travel docs, and a book (ideally Game of Thrones, but that'll be space dependent)!

Have you been to Iceland? Is there anything I've missed?

  1. I managed 3 days in Iceland with just hand luggage. I just wore all my bulky stuff (including a huge duffle coat), and believe me I needed it when I got there! Brrrr!!

    1. Yes, but less room for souvenirs! I usually buy something for my mum as she looks after my dog whenever I travel!

  3. Good list - we did a few weeks in Iceland with similar gear. I would also suggest packing an umbrella! Came in handy while we were on the road!

    1. Thanks-- I've got an umbrella in my day bag, which I forgot to mention on here, but someone else said that the winds put pay to having an umbrella anyway? Either way, I've got it, so we'll see!

  4. It's funny how packing changes once you've become a seasoned traveler. I use to lug all kinds of suitcases around with me. Now I try to carry the least amount of everything possible.

    1. I think I've got everything I *need* & if not I can always buy another jumper, it's not like its the end of the world!

  5. Thermal underwear! Even though 15 degrees may still sound like a lot, the wind is crazy and can cool your whole body down. Esp. when wearing jeans that the wind blows right through. I'm not sure where you're going but we've been to Iceland on a yearly base over the past 6 years and have experienced some true bitter cold. Enjoy your trip!

    1. Awww, thanks I'll put a pair of thermal leggings in to be safe then. It's 15C at home right now & around 5c (with a wind chill of around 2c) in Iceland.... I'll be based in Reykjavik, but am going off on the Golden Circle tour and Northern Lights tours, too :)

  6. Wow you pack light! For cold places I'd be packing every thick sweater I have. I need to learn how to pack smarter!

    1. It's a necessary evil when budget airlines charge an arm and a leg for hold luggage. I'm only there for 3 days, failing all else I'll wear one of my long sleeve tops twice under my jumpers, plus my coat has a fleece attached to the inside ;)

  7. I love seeing people's packing lists! Impressive light packing! I think you're smart to bring a bunch of layers. I've never been to Iceland, but in my cold weather travels, layers have been my best friend.

    1. Thanks, I appreciate that. I had the biggest nightmare yesterday after taking all my things out to put my charged up camera batteries in that NOTHING would fit back in! Ugh :( so I've dumped the leggings and long sleeved t-shirts in exchange for thinner ones, but they are actual thermals so HOPEFULLY I should be okay

  8. That's a great list! I'm always inspired people who pack lightly. I always bring way too much!

  11. Personally I believe that everything in the world happens because Jesus wants it. People can't blame Him because everything that he in doing it is right. Paper proofreading-services.org may help your blog.
