Traveller Tuesday with Annita of Travel Bags with Annita

Each Tuesday from now on I'll be hosting interviews with other travel bloggers, to help you discover more blogs and even more inspiration to travel. If you want to be part of this series please contact me.

1. For those who don’t know you, introduce yourself and your blog

Hi, I’m Annita Thomas, a radio travel talk show host and blogger. My show, Travel Bags With Annita started with a chance meeting two years ago. On my show and blog I talk about all things travel – really anything about travel has my interest.

2. Are you a light packer or an overpacker, what one thing won’t you leave the house without?

When I answer this question I say I’m a light packer. Making sure I have what I need for the climate, activities and comfort for the destination where I am heading. But, if you ask my friends, in particular, two buddies I have traveled with around the world – they will certainly tell you I super-duper overpack! This overpacking problem presents itself on the trip home, after I have visited and shopped in the markets, boutiques and street stalls. And, I don’t leave home without my smartphone, chargers and camera.

3. Do you plan trips or just go with the flow?

I fall somewhere in-between. I like to plan and reserve those things that limit the possibility of major challenges. I always book a place to stay, research transportation (even if I do not reserve it). Other things I’m ok going with the flow. When I was younger (I’m 50+), I was much more of a go with the flow type girl. Now days I like a bit more certainty – especially around comfort and security.

4. Where has been your favourite place to visit to date?

So many places have been a favorite. It’s hard to say and honestly, I’m not sure that I really can. When I think of a favorite place, I quickly start thinking of what I did and who was there – people make things special and favorite. It boils down to: what I’m doing, whom I’m with and the memories I’m creating.

5. Is there anywhere you don’t want to go?

No place comes to mind.

6. What is the most important item on your “Bucket List”, or if you don’t have one what one place or thing don’t you want to miss out?

While I understand the meaning behind a bucket list, I choose to not state my travel interests in this way. There are so, so many places I would like to go. And revisiting places I have loved. No need to just check off and then move on to the next place. - for me it’s about the experience & exploration – not a destination on a list.

7. What is the best experience you’ve had whilst traveling?

In the 1980’s I often traveled to Liberia. When it was time to leave groups of small kids would position themselves on the other side of the airport fence, and run along side the airplane as we took off – waving and jumping with joy. I knew exactly what they were saying, “come back again madam, come back!” I would wave too, realizing they couldn’t see me through the small window, but knowing they knew I could see them. Travel was really simple during those years.

8. What tip would you give other traveller’s?

Take advantage - completely – mind, body and soul – of the place where you are. Nothing is worse than getting home and saying I should have done this or I should have seen that. Do it!

9. If you had to choose one place to live forever, where would it be and why?

Sapelo Island, Georgia – The beauty of moss covered live oak trees over 200 years old; and the pristine nature of the island is something rare. There is no one on the beach for miles. So many connections to the history and culture of this place are still right there for you to touch and explore.

10. What’s next for you…

More travel, more experiences and more stories to tell about this beautiful world we all call home.
