Stunning South West: Glastonbury

Image
I've mentioned a few times on this blog that I had three aims for living in England when I moved back here six years ago. The first to eat a lot of fish and chips, the second to get my driver's licence and the third to go to Glastonbury Festivals. I never quite managed the third until this year, and granted I will be working my hiney off whilst I'm there, but I will still get some time to enjoy the festival.

The thing people don't realise about Glastonbury Festival is, it's not actually in Glastonbury. It's held on a farm in a little village called Pilton, about three miles away from Shepton Mallet. Glastonbury is in fact six miles away. However, Shepton Mallet festival doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it?

Notes on Manchester

Image
My lovely boyfriend has been home for the last couple of months, in between seasons in Lapland. We'd planned on spending a chunk of time together in between me trying to work but there have been various complications to that plan that have seen me spend most of my time travelling to and from Manchester. I think it's given me a pretty good impression on the city, so here's a few notes I've made.

Everyone is super friendly
From the second I hit The North, things changed. The accents were better, the smiles more genuine, and no one seemed to think they were better than anyone else. Talking to people on the bus you've never met before, totally normal. Helping folks with too many bags, totally normal. Smiling at strangers, pretty normal.

Traveller Tuesday with Chantae of Chantae Was Here

Each Tuesday from now on I'll be hosting interviews with other travel bloggers, to help you discover more blogs and even more inspiration to travel. If you want to be part of this series please contact me.

Hello readers of Wanderlustin’! I’m a Californian that’s been transplanted to Western Australia and the person behind Chantae Was Here.I got in trouble when I was little for scribbling my name on the handball court (and it was easy to find the perpetrator with a name like mine) so I’ve taken to writing about travel, adventure, and action sports on the internet... instead of public property. The goal of the blog is to inspire others to live a life of adventure no matter who you are.

Stunning South West Weymouth

Image
My boyfriend is not a fan of trains. He'd rather take a bus everywhere than hop on the train. So it took a bit of arm twisting to get him to walk the mile long footpath out of my village to the train station to visit Weymouth when he was here.

What I'm Taking to Lapland in the Summer

Image
I’m returning to Lapland this summer, but only for a visit. My boyfriend is now living up there permanently, and will be working during my visit. As you can imagine Lapland will be totally different in the summer.

Hi, I am Michelle. I am a Registered Nurse studying to become a Nurse Practitioner. I am also a traveller. Ok, part-time traveller because I love my day job and I doubt I’ll ever leave it to travel full-time. I am based in the southeast USA in North and South Carolina [It’s complicated]. My blog is A Traveler Rests which is a play on words of where I live [Travelers Rest, SC] and the fact that I don’t travel full-time. My blog doesn’t fit neatly in to one little box but I am a part-time traveller, female traveller, [mostly] solo traveller. I do a lot of day/short-term trips and average couple weeks long trip overseas a year.

Stunning South West: Lyme Regis

Image
Since I still don't have a car, I mostly rely on visiting places with my Mum on her day off. However, she's the first to admit she's not the most confident of drivers. Not to say she can't drive well, she just doesn't enjoy driving to places she doesn't know, but with my Nan having been on holiday, and me having spent the week in Manchester with my boyfriend, she had some spare time and drove to Lyme Regis.

Camping on a Famous Farm in Somerset

Image
About a month back there, I told y'all that I'm not headed to Cyprus this summer as planned. I also mentioned in the same paragraph that I had been offered yet another once in a lifetime job. Like Lapland, it's a temporary contract. Unlike Lapland, its actually just up the road from me. It's a big deal, and the whole world has heard of it, and yet in spite of my living 45 minutes away, I've never been. So when the opportunity to work there, and get paid for it, arose I had to apply! I never thought in a million years I'd get it.

Travel has always been a big part of my life as growing up my family took me on a number of overseas trips to Thailand, Hong Kong, Bali, The UK, and the USA. The desire to travel grew exponentially when I moved to England to ‘study’ for a semester and saw more of Europe than I ever expected to. Since then I’ve taken myself to Fiji, Canada, twice more to the USA and the Caribbean. In this time I’ve bought many guide books and discovered that they are all reasonably helpful to an extent but they tend to overly focus on museums and obvious sights. They gloss over cool cultural experiences and places that locals frequent that are less obvious. Generalisations aside, my blog is centred around this idea of seeing new pla…

Stunning South West: Nine Springs

Image
Yeovil, a town just like any other in the UK. Old buildings ripped out in the 50's to make way for newer, much uglier buildings. A town that springs up from nowhere, in the middle of the Somerset countryside. Locals tend to look on visiting Yeovil as a necessary evil, but hidden away behind a gym complex is Nine Springs Country Park.

5 Things I Missed on my Baltic Adventure This Time Around

Image
This winter I visited the Baltics, as well as Warsaw and Berlin on my way home from Lapland. Giving myself only two weeks to travel from Rovaniemi all the way back to the UK meant I didn't quite make it to all the sites I wanted to see. Here is the top 5 things I want to go back and see.
