Traveller Tuesday with Alexa from She Tells Travel Tales

Each Tuesday from now on I'll be hosting interviews with other travel bloggers, to help you discover more blogs and even more inspiration to travel. If you want to be part of this series please contact me.

For those who don’t know you, introduce yourself and your blog

Hey everyone! I’m Alexa, adrenaline junkie, wild child and travel blogger at I’ve been traveling for (almost!) a year and am currently based out of Chiang Mai, Thailand. I spend my days writing in cafes, going on adventures and hunting for the best bubble tea in town.

Are you a light packer or an overpacker, what one thing won’t you leave the house without?

Totally an overpacker, but in the same respect rarely bring anything I don’t need or won’t use. I pared down my wardrobe to the extreme before I left and everything I own now fits into one suitcase and a backpack. One thing I try not to leave the house without is my keys, cause then I won’t be able to get back in…

Do you plan trips or just go with the flow?

I usually plan the big things, like flights and occasionally the accommodation if I’m going to be somewhere during a really busy time. But everything is subject to change and I love to just go with the flow. Spontaneity and I are best buds.

Where has been your favourite place to visit to date?

Oh man, that’s a tough one. I’ve been so many beautiful places and each is special in its own right. I’m pretty in love with Thailand at the moment, it’s gorgeous and the weather, people and food are all amazing. I also absolutely LOVED Morocco as well and highly suggest you go there if you ever have the chance.

Is there anywhere you don’t want to go?

Parts of the Middle East are not high on my list because of safety concerns, but if that wasn’t an issue I’d be all for it. The North Pole also… a little cold for my taste, Antarctica is fine because it has penguins and that would be my 7th and final continent to step foot on. But everywhere else is fair game and waiting to be explored.

What is the most important item on your “Bucket List”, or if you don’t have one what one place or thing don’t you want to miss out?

Trekking the Incan trail to Macchu Picchu and seeing the Northern Lights are pretty high on my list. I would also love to go sky diving in New Zealand and go on an African safari. Come to think of it, exploring more of Africa is pretty appealing as well. I would kill to see a lion in the wild.

What is the best experience you’ve had whilst traveling?

There are so many, from the crazy adventures I’ve been on to the epic sunsets I’ve seen to the people I’ve met and the person I’ve become. I love adrenaline and caving in Guatemala was pretty damn enthralling, but I also really appreciate the beauty of this world and road tripping through Thailand and hiking to a gorgeous waterfall also comes to mind.

What tip would you give other traveller’s?

Follow your heart and your dreams! Don’t listen to what anybody says and do what makes you happy. Believe in yourself. Take time to appreciate where you are, talk to the locals, take pictures, educate yourself, get involved… don’t waste your travels partying in beautiful countries that you won’t remember. And definitely don’t drink the water.

If you had to choose one place to live forever, where would it be and why?

I haven’t seen enough of the world to make that decision yet! Probably somewhere near both beaches and mountains, with warm weather, lots of sunshine, friendly locals and good food. And my friends and family not too far away.

What’s next for you...

I’ve been doing three month stints since I left, 3 months in Prague, 3 months in Morocco, 3 months in Thailand. I’ll probably continue to do that for as long as I can or get sick of it, I love slow travel and find it much more advantageous to getting to know a place. No plans for where after Thailand quite yet, just going where the wind takes me. :)
